Eco-Friendly Paints

It seems that everything around us is “going green” and the importance of being eco-friendly touches so many aspects of our lives today.  So what does “eco-friendly” paint actually entail?

Eco-friendly paint is considerably less toxic than your average paint.  Many paints contain VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which are a class of chemicals that evaporate readily at room temperature.  Paints & finishes are known to release low level toxic emissions into the air for years after it is applied.  According to the EPA, indoor air is more polluted than outdoor air and paints & finishes are part of the cause.

Today, there are new environmental regulations for VOC levels in paint, which are much lower than before.  Choosing an "eco-friendly" paint means that you will be limiting the amount, if any, of harmful toxins being released into the air.  The quality is just as good as the industry standard and definitely won't break the bank.  These paints are very much cost effective & also much more environmentally sound.  You can find out more information on VOC levels on the label of the paint can or by referring to the MSDS Sheets.

There are a variety of non-toxic paints & finishes to choose from.

Natural Paints, which are paints made from raw materials such as plant oil, resin & water, other natural minerals such as clay or chalk as well.  Here are some references below for these paints:
